I’m having increasing tensions as I’m called to witness against the injustices of colonial capitalism. And to share what I’ve been learning from my leading to join a Mutual Aid community. Those experiences demonstrating more just ways to live and work together. (See also Part 1: Quaker practice and mutual aid)

The clearest differences between capitalism and mutual aid relate to hierarchy. Hierarchies are by definition power structures with all their associated problems.

Quakers in unprogrammed/silent worship communities have fewer hierarchies than organized religions, but there are some. This is the hierarchy of our peace and social concerns organization for Iowa Yearly Meeting (Conservative).
