It is difficult to keep up with the myriad of developments stemming from Israel’s attack on Iran. What follows are a few examples of new ways I’ve been able to collect and analyze information using artificial intelligence tools. Many people have negative views about artificial intelligence, stemming mainly from “hallucinations”, i.e. parts of an AI response that are inaccurate or don’t make sense. Errors can occur when AI processing attempts to make interpretations from the information it has gathered.
Some new AI systems, known as “source-based,” address these issues by restricting their processing exclusively to ONLY use the sources you provide, which is how Google’s NotebookLM works. At the end of this is a table of the sources I selected to use in the analysis of the current situation following Israel’s attack on Iran.
Following are some of the ways of visualizing the analysis that tools like NotebookLM can generate.
Podcast
NotebookLM can generate podcasts from your sources. This is the podcast from the current sources I have loaded into the project.
Infographics
One of the best things I’ve found that AI tools can produce are infographics, which are data visualizations that summarizie complex issues visually. The infographic I created this morning from the sources I loaded into the Israel Iran war project is illustrated below.
This infographic has a new feature called the AI Advisor. This allows you to ask questions about the infographic’s data. That only works when you visit the infographic website at https://g.co/gemini/share/8b8adc37fe85
De-escalation Advisor

NotebookLM
Upload your sources Upload PDFs, websites, YouTube videos, audio files, Google Docs, or Google Slides, and NotebookLM will summarize them and make interesting connections between topics, all powered by Gemini 2.0’s multimodal understanding capabilities.
Instant insights With all of your sources in place, NotebookLM gets to work and becomes a personalized AI expert in the information that matters most to you
See the source, not just the answer Gain confidence in every response because NotebookLM provides clear citations for its work, showing you the exact quotes from your sources.
American Friends Service Committee
The Trump Administration should immediately condemn Israel’s action and take steps to de-escalate. The U.S. should also end its military and political support for Israel, including by halting weapons sales and funding that allow Israel to act with impunity.
We are calling on the Trump Administration and Congress to:
- Condemn Israel’s attacks, call for an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation, and affirm that the U.S. remains committed to ongoing and long-term diplomatic engagement with Iran.
- Commit to NO direct U.S. military engagement, additional troops, airstrikes, or other military actions against Iran. Instead, the U.S. must engage in direct diplomacy with Iran with the aim of de-escalation in the region.
- Institute an immediate arms embargo on Israel
- Demand a permanent cease-fire in Gaza and the region.
- Abide by U.S. and international laws to prevent further atrocities and erosion of the existing international system of protection.
It is only through these concrete actions that the U.S. can prevent rather than provoke a wider war and avoid further death and destruction that will hurt all people in the region. Peace and security will never be achieved through war and violence.

My writings
Yesterday I wrote When Iran Diplomacy Worked, discussing work I’d done related to President Obama’s successful ratification of the Iran Nuclear Deal in 2015. I used NotebookLM to consolidate those writings into this PDF document:
