Hunger strike means to go without food in solidarity with those suffering from hunger, from famine. It also means that hunger has striken the children, the people in Gaza and the West Bank.
You can join the Pledge to Fast for the People of Gaza, sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) to fast on World Hunger Day, May 28th.
And join the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL)’s call for No New Weapons to Israel.

How to participate:
Monday, May 26:
- Make a commitment to join our fast on Wednesday, May 28, World Hunger Day.
Tuesday, May 27:
- Call Congress. You could say:
Hello, I’m a constituent from [Your City, State, ZIP Code].
I’m calling today because I’m deeply concerned about the catastrophic hunger crisis in Gaza. Israeli authorities, with the full support of the United States, have blocked nearly all lifesaving aid and humanitarian assistance for over two months now. This means that Palestinians, including pregnant women, children, medically vulnerable people, and the elderly, have almost no access to food, drinkable water, medicines, and shelter. The illegal Israeli blockade means that Palestinians are dying of starvation, dehydration, malnutrition, and avoidable disease.
I’m urging [Representative/Senator Name] to publicly demand:
1. The immediate, full, and unrestricted resumption of critical aid into Gaza according to humanitarian principles.
2. An immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of the Israeli military from Gaza.
3. An end to U.S. arms sales and military support for Israel.
We can save lives. This is a 100% preventable crisis. All parts of the U.S. government must be loud in demanding that Israel allow lifesaving aid into Gaza. I urge you to please take immediate action to prevent the starvation of millions of people. Let us not look back on this time years from now and wish we did more to stop it.
- Send letters to your representatives. Tell them to demand that Israel lift the siege and allow humanitarian access to lifesaving aid for Gaza.
Wednesday, May 28:
- Fast from sunrise to sundown in solidarity with people in Gaza, if you are able to do so safely.
- Share about your commitment on social media with the hashtag #FastforGaza.
You could say: Today, on World Hunger Day, I am calling on you to join me in fasting in solidarity with the people of Gaza, who have been denied access to food for over two months by the government of Israel. To protest this, I am eating no food and drinking nothing but water from sunrise to sunset. I hope my small symbolic act encourages an end to this terrible and preventable catastrophe.
Thursday, May 29:
- Join our online Quaker Meeting for Worship with Attention to Peace in Palestine & Israel (Every Thursday 5:30 p.m. ET / 2:30 p.m. PT).
- Make a gift to help our team in Gaza deliver lifesaving aid and support our advocacy.
Friday, May 30:
- Join our weekly Action Hour to stay updated on the news in Palestine and learn more ways to get involved and take action.

Thank you to Sen. Welch and Sen. Van Hollen for your leadership!
46 Senators are now on record demanding that food and aid be allowed into Gaza and that the siege ends. While we are disappointed and outraged this resolution did not receive unanimous consent to pass, we are encouraged to see more members of Congress speaking out with moral clarity to make clear that the starvation of Palestinians Gaza is unacceptable and must end now.
