Director’s Statement

We’re making this film together, as a Palestinian-Israeli collective, because we desperately want to stop the ongoing ethnic cleansing of the community of Masafer Yatta, and because we want to resist the reality of Apartheid we were born into – from opposite, unequal, sides. Life in our land is becoming scarier, more violent, more oppressive, every day – and we feel helpless, fighting against very powerful systems of control. We can only shout out something radically different to the world – this film – which at its core, is not only proof of settler-colonial war crimes taking place in the present, but also a proposal for the future, a search for a path towards justice and equality and an end to Apartheid. We made this film because we believe that there can be no just future between the river and the sea for all the inhabitants without real justice for the Palestinian people and the Palestinian refugees. The theme of displacement, from the Nakba to today, of Palestinians is crucial to our film, as we hope to spark change to end it, allowing displaced people to return home and live in peace.

صنعنا هذا الفيلم معًا، كمجموعة فلسطينية-إسرائيلية، لأننا نريد بشدة إيقاف التطهير العرقي المستمر لمجتمع مسافر يطّا، ولأننا نريد مقاومة واقع الفصل العنصري الذي وُلِدنا فيه – من جانبين متقابلين وغير متكافئين. الحياة في أرضنا تصبح أكثر رعبًا، وأكثر عنفًا، وأكثر قمعًا كل يوم – ونشعر بالعجز في مواجهة أنظمة السيطرة القوية. كل ما يمكننا فعله هو الصراخ بشيء مختلف جذريًا إلى العالم – هذا الفيلم – الذي هو في جوهره ليس فقط دليلًا على جرائم الحرب الاستعمارية الاستيطانية التي تحدث في الحاضر، بل هو أيضًا اقتراح للمستقبل، وبحث عن طريق نحو العدالة والمساواة ونهاية الفصل العنصري.

لقد صنعنا هذا الفيلم لأننا نؤمن بأنه لا يمكن أن يكون هناك مستقبل عادل بين النهر والبحر لجميع السكان دون تحقيق عدالة حقيقية للشعب الفلسطيني وللاجئين الفلسطينيين. إن موضوع التهجير، من النكبة إلى يومنا هذا، هو محور أساسي في فيلمنا، حيث نأمل أن نساهم في إحداث تغيير ينهي هذا الظلم، مما يسمح للاجئين بالعودة إلى ديارهم والعيش بسلام.
