Martin Luther King, Jr, Memorial, Washington DC

“Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope” is from Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington, DC on August 28, 1963.

For nine years I was on the General Committee of the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), which meant going to Washington, DC, each November for the annual meetings of FCNL. I always looked forward to taking photos of the memorials and monuments while in the city.

The Martin Luther King, Jr, Memorial, is not on the National Mall, which is bracketed by the Lincoln Memorial on the west, and the Washington Monument on the east. The Martin Luther King Memorial is indicated by the red pin in the map below.

Today is Martin Luther King Day. These are some of the photos I’ve taken at the Martin Luther King, Jr, Memorial over the years.
