When systems fail

The start of a new year offers a chance to reflect on current conditions. It also allows us to consider what we might hope to change for the better. A major development of the past several years is an increasing sense of hopelessness. People feel helpless when facing expanding, multiple local and global threats and moral calamities.

Built on Injustice

Systems in this country are based upon the fundamental injustices of colonialism and capitalism. Many people and organizations have been working on alternatives for years.

Significant, interrelated stressors are causing most of the systems we could once rely on to fail. Over the years I’ve worked on this diagram to visualize this.

Now, more than ever, others are urged to stop trying to patch up these unjust systems and join alternatives.

Mutual Aid

My years of experience at Des Moines Mutual Aid showed me the way.

Rather than write even more words about that, I realize I’ve created and collected a lot of graphics related to all this, so I’ll put those together as kind of a graphic novel.
