Palestinian Lives Matter

After eleven months of Israeli attacks on children, women and men in Gaza, it is hard to imagine new horrors. But last night’s Israeli attack on a tent encampment of internally displaced people is ‘heinous’ as reporters have described it.

This photo shows craters said to be 30 feet deep from Israeli bombs dropped on a tent camp in what was supposed to be a safe zone. This is symbolic of the Israeli government’s total disregard for the lives of Palestinian children, men and women.

This gives lie to the Israeli government’s statement: “Prior to the strike, numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians, including the use of precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional means.”

A spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defence said that the initial assessment of the scene suggested the attack was “one of the most heinous massacres in this frenzied war”

Daylight gives you a sense of the power that came from the air. Israel says it targeted various Hamas field commanders. But what that means is that Israel targeted a camp for the internally displaced. Their tents no protection against Israel’s military might. Israel deemed this a safe Zone.

“They told us to flee to Al-Mawasi. We believed them and came to Khan Younis. We moved our belongings as you can see. We were sleeping safely with our children. At 12:30 at night we heard missiles. Around six of them. I don’t know what they hit. Children and women. People flew. It’s an Indescribable feeling. Body parts. We took our children from under the sand.”

11 months into this war Israel does what it wants. There is no accountability, no real pressure from the International Community. Palestinian lives seemingly don’t matter.

“We came here to check people, and we saw holes, tents buried under the sand. We can no longer see the tents. Look where are they? Everything is buried. Rescuers came and they started pulling some out, but others are still missing. They have nothing to do with resistance or anything.”

They are unarmed people. This is just another day. Stephanie Decker, Aljazeera.

Al-Mawasi has been overcrowded with Palestinians sleeping in tents since the Israeli army designated the coastal area a “safe zone” during its ground invasions of Khan Younis and nearby Rafah.

Rescuers searching for survivors said they found craters of up to 9 metres (30 ft) deep at the tent camp, Al Jazeera Arabic reported, citing local sources.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes in the area, with fires burning while Israeli reconnaissance planes circled overhead.

A spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defence said that the initial assessment of the scene suggested the attack was “one of the most heinous massacres in this frenzied war”.

“The terrorists advanced and carried out terror attacks against [Israeli army] troops and the state of Israel,” the Israel Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on X.

“Prior to the strike, numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians, including the use of precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional means.”
