Greetings Repair Network members,

If you follow the Coalition on Facebook, you are perhaps already aware that Apache Stronghold is on a two-month long Prayer Journey to file their appeal of their court case Apache Stronghold vs. the United States to the Supreme Court on September 11.

I’m writing to ask you to please pray with our Apache relatives to protect the sacred land of Oak Flat.

How can you join in prayer?

  • Follow Apache Stronghold on Facebook Apache Stronghold/Save Oak Flat or Instagram @protectoakflat for updates on public prayer events along the Journey.

Upcoming cities include: St. Louis, MO (Aug 27), Lexington, KY (Aug 29), Montgomery, AL (Aug 31), Cherokee, NC (Sept 1), Winston-Salem, NC (Sept 2), Raleigh, NC (Sept 4), Philadelphia, PA (Sept 7), Washington DC (Sept 8, 10, 11)

  • Attend the Coalition’s Prayer as Action Hour

Friday, August 30 1-2pm PT / 3-4pm CT / 4-5pm ET

Zoom registration

Join us to pray for Apache Stronghold’s Prayer Journey. We will also learn how to organize amicus brief sign-ons, in support of the Supreme Court taking the case.

  • Organize among your networks
  • Invite a friend to this month’s Prayer as Action Hour
  • Ask your congregation to consider signing the amicus brief (if you haven’t already)
  • Send an email to possible allies in your region or denomination:
    • Share the United Church of Christ webinar Defending the Sacred, featuring Dr. Wendsler Noise (Apache Stronghold) and Rev. Carol Rose (Coalition to Dismantle the Doctrine of Discovery) and/or this accompanying summary news article
    • Share the Amicus brief toolkit with other justice-minded organizers, congregations, and religious organizations and ask them to consider signing on by October 16, or for the next round of amicus briefs

Decolonial Repair Network

We are a network of non-Native individuals, communities and organizations in Iowa and across the Midwest who strive to be good allies to Indigenous people through actively working to repair the harms of colonization in the Midwest. Our network currently organizes itself through monthly online calls, with the hope of future in person chapters throughout the Midwest.

We understand that the dominant white culture bears the primary responsibility for this immense damage, and therefore we believe that white people bear a particular responsibility to repair the harm. We recognize this truth while welcoming the unique perspective and collaboration of non-Native People of Color and committing to listen to the needs of Indigenous leadership. We understand that the work of repair is not only about healing damage done to Indigenous peoples and the land, but that it is also about healing ourselves.

We ask that those who join this network are willing to make the following commitments:

  • Contributing ongoing financial support to Honor Native Land Fund, which supports the ReMatriation Fund of the Great Plains Action Society
  • Regularly attending monthly learning and organizing calls on the first Wednesday of each month that will focus on learning Indigenous and colonial history, current issues facing Indigenous communities, engaging guest speakers (both Native and non-Native), healing, and networking
  • Willingness to confront racism in all its forms, such as racist mascots and cultural appropriation
  • Willingness to work to dismantle legal and cultural systems of white supremacy
  • Inner transformation and healing the wounds of colonialism within
  • Healing land in whatever places we inhabit
  • As able, to show up when Indigenous leaders call for solidarity and support

Here is the recording of the launch of Honor Native Land Fund with Sikowis Nobiss and Shelley Buffalo. We hope that you all will start contributing and spreading the word in your networks.
