Recent events lead me to reflect, once again, on my many dispiriting experiences with White Quakers over the years. I am a White Quaker, but I am not racially complacent. It wounds me deeply that so many White Friends (Quakers) are.
Dispiriting racial complacency is the spiritual message I received this morning. Because the racial behavior of White Quakers is a matter of the Spirit. Quakers say our fundamental spiritual belief is there is that of God in every person and thing. Which just highlights what a contradiction it is when most White Quaker’s lives are not consistent with that. It took me a very long time to understand there is often an unspoken understanding that there is that of God in everyone, but not everyone is equal. I find that simply shocking. Much of my frustration is most White Quakers refuse to examine any of these considerations.
