I usually write short, daily blog posts.
I just took several weeks away from that to research the “Nakba” (meaning ‘catastrophe’) which is how Palestinians refer to the history of 1948, when the British abandoned their imperial presence in the land called Israel. Almost overnight, 750,000 Palestinians were forced to leave their land and homes.
The main vision I was given was to use the atrocities that are occurring in Gaza now to illustrate the consequences of colonialism. Specifically, the parallels between the Middle East, and the colonialism Europeans used to take over this land.
It comes down to this. It is not possible to address the root causes of injustice from within an unjust system. Until we reject the colonial system of white supremacy and the capitalist economic system, we will not be doing the justice work I believe we are called to do now.
To do that requires us to decolonize ourselves. I’ll continue to write about that. ( See: https://landbackfriends.com/?s=repair )
